How To Properly Care for Your Sundance Spa
Understanding how to handle hot tub care is simple and will allow you to enjoy your spa for years to come. By honing your hot tub maintenance skills and sticking to a regular schedule, you’ll be able to keep your spa in top condition, help prevent costly issues with the water and hardware, and tackle any issues that may crop up.
General Hot Tub Care
Taking care of a hot tub is simple if you make sure to do a couple simple things.
Scrub the Tub
First and foremost, clean the inside of your hot tub as often as possible, at least weekly, with a sponge and some white vinegar. Don’t forget to focus on the scum line at the water’s edge and to wipe down the shell. In addition, give your hot tub cover a once-over with a 10% bleach solution, which will help prevent any mildew.
Rinse the Filters
Whenever your hot tub is running, the filters are working, which means you need to clean them to ensure that they run properly. While we get into more detail about filter care below, make sure to rinse them often as possible with warm water or your garden hose, especially if you’ve been heavily using your spa.
Store the Chemicals
To save money and increase the life of your test strips and spa chemicals, make sure that they’re properly stored. That means they’re not in direct sunlight, near heaters, or in hot places like attics, as extreme heat and cold can damage test strips and reduce their shelf life. Keep them dry, stored in a tightly sealed container and kept on a raised platform — not directly on the ground. Make sure to keep the original packaging so that you have the instructions for each chemical.
Hot Tub Water Care
While how much you use the hot tub, the water quality, and even the weather can affect your hot tub, overall following this simple system simplifies the process, so you can truly relax in the warm waters of a Sundance spa.
After each use:
- Add 1 capful of shock and one teaspoon chlorine sanitizer.
- Place the cover back on and run the jets for five minutes.
- After heavy use, add the recommended amount of shock
- Use test strips to check the water, following the simple package instructions to adjust pH levels if needed.
- Add products like SunPurity™ PLUS to keep water soft and fresh on the same day each week.
- Check your filters for buildup and rinse or clean as necessary.
- Add scale remover if you live in an area with hard water.
- Now is the time to replace your MicroClean® filter and your SunPurity™ cartridge.
- Drain and replace the water every three to six months, depending on usage.
- Scrub your hot tub cover to extend the cover’s life, along with keeping it looking in tip-top shape.
